DDC panel for BMS system

DDC panel for BMS system

Description

A DDC (Direct Digital Control) panel in a Building Management System (BMS) is a centralized, microprocessor-based control cabinet that automates building systems—specifically HVAC, lighting, and pumps—by receiving sensor data and executing control logic. It acts as the “brain” and interface between field devices (sensors/actuators) and the central BMS software.

Usage Examples of DDC Panels in BMS:

HVAC Control (AHU/FCU): Managing Air Handling Units by monitoring temperature and modulating damper actuators for airflow control.
Lighting Control: Turning lights on/off based on programmed schedules or occupancy sensors.
Chiller Plant Management: Starting/stopping chillers, pumps, and monitoring chilled water temperatures to maintain efficiency.

Energy Management: Monitoring energy meters and reducing peak demand to decrease utility costs.
Alarm Monitoring: Detecting failures in equipment (e.g., pump failure) and sending immediate signals to the BMS workstation.

Key Components within a DDC Panel:

Controller/Processor: The brain running the control algorithms.
Input Modules (AI/DI): Receive signals from sensors (temperature, humidity, pressure).
Output Modules (AO/DO): Send signals to actuators (valves, fans).
Communication Interface: Networks (BACnet, Modbus) connecting the panel to the main BMS,.
Power Supply: Often 24 VDC to power electronics safely
